A few years ago, Neu Harmony/Synth Music Direct (the British label and distribution company that releases my albums on CDr) asked the musicians working with it if we had some unreleased tracks for a series of promotional compilations they were planning to make.
I always work on defined projects and only make music with a specific album in mind, so I basically never have single tracks lying around or leftovers. Besides, I didn't want to give them any B-rate material, so I asked if it was OK for me to concoct new tracks using pieces of previously released tracks of mine. A sequence from that piece, a solo from the other, a bass line from another, the drums from another, etc., all mixed together to form new pieces, along with the addition of new material on top. They agreed, and the "Concoction" series of tracks was born.
In time, I also added entirely new tracks whenever I had the time, and a few times they were even the starting point for tracks I would later put on my own albums.
Since I am allowed to release them myself when a reasonable amount of time has passed since their release by the label, I am now collecting those “concoctions” in this series of albums.
Those of you with a much better memory than me may be able to recognize where the various bits come from (I can't...). In any case, I hope you will enjoy them!
