Paul Asbury Seaman A wonderful accomplishment at the intersection of technology, style and place-specific legacy, this album pays homage to the vividly atmospheric music of old "spaghetti" westerns, It captures the texture and nuance of these classic soundtracks as perhaps only an Italian artist could do. Mac has released many excellent Berlin School electronic albums, but for me, this one is the most fun. Puts a smile in my heart. Favorite track: DRIFTING NORTH.

about

JUST MUSIC series - vol 86

Genre: 80's, west, folk, more...

A couple of years ago I happened to watch some documentaries about wild west outlaws and I was quite fascinated by the fact that robbers, thieves and killers had become legends. While their actions can't be condoned, their appeal is undeniable. Was it because they lived outside of society and were (apparently) free from the chains we're all in? I don't know.
One picture particularly fascinated me, John Swartz's famous photo of some members of the Wild Bunch (the notorious gang that included Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid). The contrast between the elegant gentlemen's portrait and what they actually were is quite striking (and it's also a truly beautiful photo).
My idea to make an album about all those outlaws found a definite shape when my uncle Domenico "Sem" Semeraro sent me the intense pic of a house you see on the cover (thanks!). While it's not a wild west home, it does remind me of the real lives of those criminals, which were, in all likelihood, much less glamorous than we like to imagine. Starting from that photo, I created the tracks trying to balance reality and legend.
Now relax, start this record and let's all ride through the prairie together...

------------------------------
