Sometimes you can feel the weather in your life change, like you can feel electricity in the air before the thuderstorm begins, or the peace the sun will bring even before the clouds scatter. It's not a change you know of, it's just something you feel and couldn't define, but somehow you know things will be different, at least for a while.
I was going through just one of those times and for some reason I got the idea of recording a whole album using only emulations of electric pianos and nothing else. And nothing too fancy, either, just very few parts - four or five max - for each piece. Not an album for everyone, that's for sure, but a totally "true" one. How the "changes" and the electric pianos were connected, I wouldn't know and couldn't say, but they were. So I quickly recorded a brief and rough sketch, just to remember the general idea. Probably due to the haziness of what I was feeling, though, I couldn't go beyond that rough sketch, so I closed my instruments and went back to watching some photos on a website I was visiting earlier that night.
The photos were by a photographer whose fantastic works I really enjoy, Domenico "Sem" Semeraro. I watched a couple of sets of pictures, opened another page and... there it was, the very feeling that was stirring inside of me in the form of a picture, the perfect visual representation of what I had inside in those days. I saved that photo, kept it open on my screen, turned my instruments back on and started recording again. In a couple of days the whole album was ready, entirely
based on that image that so well represented the concept I needed to express and that I followed like a map, performing all its shadows and lights. That's the picture you can see on the cover.
About 80% of what you hear on this album is completely improvised, and all of it is "pure" in terms of emotions, with very little polishing afterwards - almost none, in fact. Plus, the tracks are in the exact order they were recorded. So here it is, an audio photograph of my own weather changes.

A volte senti cambiare il tempo nella tua vita, come senti l'elettricità nell'aria prima di un temporale, o la pace che porterà il sole prima ancora che le nubi si diradino. Non è un cambiamento di cui sai, è solo qualcosa che percepisci e che non potresti definire, ma sai che le cose saranno differenti, almeno per un pò.
Stavo attraversando uno di questi periodi, e per qualche motivo mi venne l'idea di registrare un intero album usando solo emulazioni di piani elettrici e nient'altro. E non una cosa complessa, solo quattro o cinque strumenti/tracce al massimo per ogni brano. Certo, non un album per tutti, ma uno totalmente "vero". In che modo i "cambiamenti" ed i piani elettrici fossero collegati non ne ho idea, ma lo erano.
Registrai quindi un breve schizzo musicale, tanto per ricordarmi l'idea generale. La vaghezza di quello che sentivo dentro, però, probabilmente mi impedì di andare oltre quel breve schizzo, chiusi quindi gli strumenti e tornai a guardare delle foto su un sito web che stavo visitando in precedenza quella sera. Le foto erano di un fotografo i cui bellissimi lavori mi piacciono davvero tanto, Domenico "Sem" Semeraro. Guardai un paio di set, caricai un'altra pagina... ed era lì, l'esatta emozione che si agitava dentro di me, ma sotto forma di foto, la perfetta rappresentazione visiva di quello che provavo in quei giorni. Salvai la foto, la tenni aperta sullo schermo, riaccesi gli strumenti e ricominciai a registrare. In un paio di giorni l'intero album era pronto, interamente basato su quell'immagine che così bene rappresentava il concetto che sentivo il bisogno di esprimere e che seguii come una mappa, suonandone tutte le luci e le ombre. E' la foto che vedete in copertina.
L' 80% circa di quello che sentite su questo album è completamente improvvisato, e tutto l'insieme è "puro" in quanto ad emozioni, con ben poche rifiniture a posteriori - quasi nessuna, in realtà. Perfino i brani sono nell'ordine esatto in cui li ho registrati. E così eccola qui, una fotografia audio dei miei "cambiamenti di tempo".
